Emergency Management
In order to safely and effectively deal with natural or man made disasters, the Whitewater Police Department has an appointed officer to serve as Emergency Management Coordinator. We have developed policies, procedures, and plans to deal with specific emergency/disaster situations. The Emergency Management program represents an ongoing developmental process. The program includes maintenance of 8 outdoor warning sirens, a functional emergency operation center (EOC), access to weather radar, training, and all other aspects of disaster preparedness.
It is the mission of the Office of Emergency Management to protect the citizens of Whitewater through efficient handling of emergency situations to include man-made, natural or terrorist disasters. Continuous education and training is available through this program in order to better prepare Whitewater area residents to protect themselves following a major emergency or disaster until emergency services can respond.

Sirens are designed to warn people outdoors of impending severe weather or other hazards. Indoor alerting monitors with direct communications to the Police Communications Center are available at a cost to the user. Several businesses in Whitewater have monitors to protect their employees and others in the event of severe weather. Contact the Emergency Management office for purchase information.
Protect Your Pets
Everyone can benefit from having a household evacuation plan in place. It's the best way to protect your family in case of disaster, whether it's a large scale natural catastrophe or an emergency that causes you to leave your home temporarily. Every disaster plan MUST include your companion animals! Make sure every member of your family is familiar with the plan.
Severe Weather

Siren testing notices are posted in the local paper and on the local televesion station.
Storm Ready Community
On August 22, 2002 Whitewater became the second community in Wisconsin to be designated as a “Storm Ready” community by the National Weather Service and Wisconsin Emergency Management. “Storm Ready” is a National Weather Service program that addresses the need for a higher level of community awareness in order to minimize the loss of life and property from severe weather. The “Storm Ready” program proves that Whitewater will be able to effectively respond to any severe weather event.”
Tornado
When a tornado watch is issued, the National Weather Service urges you to alert your neighbors and be sure your family is ready to take shelter. Listen to your radio. It's a lifeline for storm bulletins and safety information. If you hear a tornado warning, take cover immediately. There may not be a tornado in your future, but don't bet your life on it.
