Irvin L. Young Memorial Library

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library was built in 1991 with seed money for the project donated by the Irvin L. Young Foundation. The previous library was located on Main Street in the White Memorial Building, which currently houses the Whitewater Arts Alliance and Whitewater TV, the local access cable channel.

The library has a 7-member Board of Trustees who are appointed by the Whitewater Common Council. Appointments are for a 3-year term, which begins each July 1. Three is the maximum number of terms an individual may serve consecutively. The library board has one representative from the Common Council and one from the Whitewater Unified School District at all times. The Board of Trustees meets regularly on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at the library. The library is a member of the SHARE consortium, consisting of 43 public libraries and 2 school libraries in Dodge, Jefferson, Racine, Walworth and Washington counties.

StaceyLunsfordStacey Lunsford has served as director of the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library since 2001. As Library Director, Stacey is responsible for overall administration of the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, budget planning, administration and supervision of employees, collection development, technology planning, as well as acting as a liaison with community groups including; UW-Whitewater and the Whitewater School District. Stacey received her Masters degree in Library and Information Science in 2000 from the University of Iowa. She has also received a Regular Grade 1 Public Librarian Certificate from the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. In addition to her duties at the library Stacey serves as the Readers Section Newsletter Editor for the Wisconsin Library Association. Prior to serving as Director of the Young Memorial Library, Stacey served as Director of the Humboldt Public Library in Humboldt, Iowa and Director of the Kinney Memorial Library in Hanlontown, Iowa.
